Truffle Hunt.. i didn’t know there were any in Greece!

One of the great things about spending time on the wonderful island of Skopelos is the randomness of life. If you set out in the morning to do 3 things you may achieve one but still end up doing something you never imagined.. Today being no exception…

Did i know i would end up hunting for truffles..well i actually didn’t even know there were any here! but underneath the lemon tree that suffered badly in the mad, bad winter i was removing the pebbles in preparation for its replacement when i found the first of the small white pieces of treasure . Tuber Borchii or in Italian Bianchetto Truffle  the little piece of gourmet delight that is available from December until May. The excitement being slightly tempered by finding out that the gatherer of these hidden jewels can only receive about €150 per kilo where as the rich gourmet in London can pay €150 per 100gm.. such is the way of the world. Riches aren’t always counted in Euros…
